SuperATV's Gen 3 GDP 4" Portal Gear Lift raises your Honda Talon 1000R or 1000R-4 by 4 inches right at the wheels and adds a 15% or 30% gear reduction at the same time. It is a complete bolt-on kit for all four corners, built to the options you pick: single or dual idler gears, cast or billet aluminum housings and your gear reduction. A frame stiffener can be added as a separate part right on this page.

WHY A PORTAL GEAR LIFT?

A portal gear lift puts a gear box at each wheel. The axle drives the top gear, and the wheel hub bolts to an output shaft that sits lower in the box, so the whole machine rides higher without longer axles or a taller suspension lift. Here is what that means on the trail:

4 inches of ground clearance at the hubs. The lift happens at the wheel, so you clear more rocks, ruts, logs and mud.
Room for bigger tires. SuperATV rates this kit for 37" tires on stock suspension and 38" tires with a 3" lift kit.
Gear reduction that protects your drivetrain. Big tires normally make the engine, transmission, axles and differentials work harder. Because the gear reduction happens in the hub, the torque multiplication takes place after the axles, which relieves stress on the drivetrain instead of adding to it.
Pick the reduction for how you ride. 30% is SuperATV's choice for big tires, thick mud and maximum torque. 15% keeps a higher top speed with punchy power for trail riding.

Year & Lift Kit: pick 2019-2023 (fits RS models) or 2023+ (does NOT fit RS models). The 2019-2023 version comes two ways: one for machines without a Big Lift Kit and one for machines that have a Big Lift Kit. The 2023+ version is offered for machines without a Big Lift Kit.

FEATURES

Dual Idler option for maximum strength. A second idler gear in each portal box spreads the load over twice as much gear surface for more reliable torque transfer. The gears are precision CNC ground so the two idlers mesh correctly.
9310 steel alloy gears. SuperATV makes the gears from 9310 steel alloy, which it calls the industry's toughest.
Cast or billet aluminum housings. Both are reinforced for gear retention and shaped for oil flow.
5/16" advanced steel alloy backing plates that SuperATV says are stronger than chromoly.
No vents. SuperATV tested vents and found they do more harm than good, so the boxes are sealed.
Leak-resistant seals throughout. Advanced gaskets and O-rings with excellent oil resistance and low deterioration, a sealed input gear, a double-lipped output seal and 100% sealing coverage.
Bearings built to last. Double angular contact output bearings help prevent early wear, and roller idler and drive bearings keep the gears meshing correctly.

DETAILS - PLEASE READ

Fits: 2019+ Honda Talon 1000R and 2023+ Honda Talon 1000R-4. Choose the year option that matches your machine. The 2023+ version does NOT fit RS models.
Wheel requirements: 14" or larger wheels, no more than 5" backspacing, not compatible with dual beadlock wheels, and a center hole of at least 3.25" (82.55mm). Wheels with a smaller center hole need a 1" wheel spacer.
Tire sizes: up to 37" tires on stock suspension and up to 38" tires with a 3" lift kit. SuperATV measures these at full compression and full turn as the largest sizes that fit without rubbing; larger tires can be run with minor trimming or a small amount of rub.
Frame stiffener: the Talon is tough enough for 4" portals, but if you add another lift, big tires and heavy passengers, SuperATV says the frame could bend and recommends adding the frame stiffener. It is sold as its own part: pick "Add Frame Stiffener" above, or see the frame stiffener listing.
Gear oil: SuperATV recommends GDP Portal Blood, gear oil formulated for GDP portals.
