With bigger tires, and/or added horsepower often the first part to fail in this transmission is the pinon bearing retainer resulting in catastrophic failure. The factory plate, made from a 1/8" thick steel sheet, is vulnerable to bending when subjected to a heavy load from the snorkel gear pushing against the pinion. To address this issue, we offer our Heavy Duty Retainer, which is water-jetted from 1/4" Cold Rolled Steel and comes with longer hardware to accommodate the thicker material. If you're already opening up your transmission, this is a straightforward upgrade that you can easily carry out at the same time.
